LISTEN TO THE RESEARCH
MIT CISR research has shown that firms need an Acceptable Data Use capability that includes legal, regulatory, and ethical oversight practices. Leaders can effectively manage the latter values-based requirements of employee data use by focusing on dignity. Dignity broadly refers to the recognition that human beings possess intrinsic value, are endowed with certain rights, and deserve respect. Using this dignity lens, this briefing describes five kinds of interrelated contemporary employee data; how firms use the data to assess, improve, change, and engineer work; and guidance to ensure that firms treat employees like people, not like objects being managed.
